 COMPARISONS



RULES

There are three kinds of adjectives, they are short adjectives, long adjectives and irregular ones.

You can use: 馃槏馃槑

SHORT ADJECTIVES er than 

to compare 2 people, 2 places, 2 animals, 2 things.

  Example: 

Ana is taller than Toni. 

Short adjective + ER.

     old older

     young younger

CVC + ER (the final consonant is doubled)

     big bigger

     hot hotter

Short adjective ended in –Y -IER

     easy easier

     heavy heavier

LONG ADJECTIVES

You can add

more + adjective + than 

to compare 2 people, 2 places, 2 animals, 2 things when you are using longer adjectives.


    Example: 

Toni is more serious than Ana.


 Long adjective: MORE + long adjective + than

     exciting more exciting than

     beautiful more beautiful than



IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES


: good-better bad-worse far-farther/further




We use THAN after the comparative form of the adjective.


John is taller than Mary.

A Ferrari is more expensive than a Fiat.

Andy is better than George.
